For engineers specifying investigation programs, compact drilling also reduces the risk of programme delays caused by access difficulties. Specifying equipment known to be suitable for site conditions from the outset prevents the situation where a rig arrives on-site and cannot be positioned at the required borehole locations.

The compact driller has become essential not because it replaces the full-size geotechnical drill rig, but because it extends what is operationally possible.
